Vertical Jump Test is a reflection to how powerful an athlete is. Basketball is a very explosive sport; therefore, how much power an athlete can generate will allow scouts to predict who will be successful at the next level.

Max Speed will be measured using laser timers for ¾ of the court. (Baseline to opposite free throw line)

Max speed for a basketball player is a key element for a coach to look at. A player that is fast can not only make plays from end to end, but also can play in any style of play that a coach may use.

Athlete starts at Elbow and makes a square around the Key. Start with a sprint, change to a shuffle, to back pedal, and shuffle back to starting position. Athlete will touch the ground and reverse the pattern though the start line. Timing is done by hand and begins on athlete’s first movement.

Key Agility Test shows how an athlete will move in game situations. A basketball player needs to be able to move in every direction quickly to be efficient on offense, as well as to play great defense. This drill will show how “Athletic” a player is.

A will do a max Push up test. Athletes will do as many Push Ups as possible without breaking form and without any breaks. If athlete loses form or takes a prolonged break, the test is over. Complete push up will be counted when the chest hits the cone.

Unlike Body Composition, Strength is an attribute that can be changed and controlled by the athlete. Strength allows an athlete to play more physical as well as to avoid injuries on contact plays. Basketball players with strength are also able to finish around the rim, allowing them to take more “High Percentage” shots.

Athlete will jump laterally over a hurdle/Cone continuously. Athlete must jump off of 2 feet every time and will have a limit of 20 seconds.

Body Control is the biggest factor to maintaining a high speed and achieving a great score. Body control is an important factor because of the multi-directional movements of basketball and a need to be precise with shots, passes, and defensive positioning.

Athlete will start at sideline and will have 60 seconds to touch sideline to sideline as many times as possible. Time starts on athlete’s first movement, must touch the sideline at each end with hand.

Endurance is also a factor that an athlete can control. Often times it is referred to as an athletes “conditioning”. Since an athlete can control their conditioning, a coach will be able to see how deep a player can push into the game as well as how hard they work off of the court.”
